That was the starting point for Claii.
From appliance to object
Most water filters look like appliances. Stainless steel, plastic, chrome — designed primarily around function, and often something you would rather hide away if you could.
We wanted to approach the water filter differently.
What if a water filter could be something you proudly leave on your benchtop?
Something that feels considered alongside the ceramics, glassware and objects you have carefully chosen for your home.
Not something to hide. Something to become part of the space.
Stainless steel vs handcrafted ceramic
The biggest difference you notice immediately is the material.
Stainless steel gravity filters are manufactured for consistency. Each one is designed to look exactly like the next.
Ceramic behaves differently.
Every Claii water filter is shaped and finished by hand in a fifth-generation family workshop in Portugal.
Small variations in shape, texture and glaze are part of the process. No two pieces are exactly the same.
Those differences aren't imperfections to remove. They're the marks of something made by human hands.
In a world of mass production
We have become used to products being identical.
Made quickly. Made at scale. Made to be replaced.
There is something special about choosing an object that has passed through the hands of people who have spent generations working with the same material.
Claii is made in small batches, using traditional ceramic craftsmanship that takes time, knowledge and human touch.
